Portable Lighting

LEDs have taken the portable lighting markets by storm. Familiar examples of portable lighting products include flashlights, bicycle lights, headlamps, lanterns, work lights, etc. Most of the higher performance portable lighting products now employ LEDs, and the benefits of LEDs are a natural fit for this market. These benefits include:

• LEDs are much more efficient than traditional portable light bulbs. Incandescent bulbs convert less than 10% of power consumed to light. The greatly improved efficiency of LEDs allow extended battery life or the use of smaller, lighter batteries.
• LEDs have much longer lifetimes than traditional light bulbs. Incandescent portable light bulbs can have lifetimes as short as 20 hours. LED lifetimes are typically 50,000 hours.
• LED operation and lifetime is not affected by shocks or vibration.
• LEDs can provide better light-beam uniformity than conventional light sources.
